Minimum wage for labors hike to Rs 13,450 per month ; Payment to be made through banking channel
The Ministry of Labor, Employment and Social Security has settled Rs 13,450 as the base month-to-month wage of workers applicable from fiscal year 2018/19.
The decision was made based on the trilateral talks held between employers, representatives of trade unions and government for almost 2 months. With this, the daily wage had escalated from Rs 398 to Rs 517. Similarly, the hourly rate has incresead to Rs 70.
Addressing the media staff, Minister for Labor Gokarna Raj Bista said that the rate of increment is higher this time when compared to the previous years. The minimum wage has surged by 39% this time. The minister also added the payment has to be made through the banking channel. The government will be governing this, and anyone breaching it will be given a strict punishment.
On the event, Chairwoman of the Committee, Bhawani Rana, said it was basic that the trade unions should hold hands for powerful execution of the lowest pay permitted by law.
